PSHE and Well-Being
at Fazakerley Primary School

The PSHE and Well-Being Leader is Mrs J. Williams.

The PSHE long term plan is supported with 18 separate medium term plans as well as individual lesson plans as part of the JIgsaw scheme which outline the sequence of lessons in the unit, identifies key vocabulary, prior learning as well a identifying key knowledge and skills within the unit.

PSHE Subject Specific Pedagogies.

IN addition to our generic pedagogies, which are:

  •  Flexible groupings

  •  Revisiting prior learning from lessons

  •  Retrieval of prior knowledge in different contexts

  •  Visualisers for modelling

  •  Chunking lesson

  •  Dual coding 

  •  Sequential graphics

  •  Working walls (consistent subject specific design)

  •  Explicit teaching of vocabulary. (E.g. Use of visualiser /   demonstrate methods and techniques).

 

We also have the following subject specific pedagogies for PSHE:

  •  Adapting scenario cards etc / language used

  • Adapting how we assess e.g., can the children verbally discuss their ideas.

  • Use of a candle to signify the practise of gratitude and intention setting and the use of the chime to signify the start and end of the meditation practice.

  • Formative assessment approaches are applied at all times in each lesson.

  • Regular representation of the subject within ‘Low Stakes Friday Curriculum Quiz’ to reinforce Knowledge, skills and understanding and aid cognitive load. Teachers guided by subject lead’s key questioning document.

  • SEND adaptations are made for pupils who need them.
