Learning Mentors

My name is Mrs Jacques, I am the Learning Mentors here at Fazakerley Primary School. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a bit about my role and how I can support you and your child.

What is a Learning Mentor?

As a Learning Mentor, I spend time supporting pupils by:

-exploring problems

-discussing relevant issues

-giving information

-offering guidance

-setting goals and targets

We work alongside the teaching and classroom staff in ensuring pupils can enjoy and achieve during their time in school.

What happens when I go to see the Learning Mentor?

For our pupils, you may be asked to see the Learning Mentor either on your own or as part of a group.  When you first meet with Mrs Jacques, all she wants to do is get to know you a bit.  After that, it depends on what you talk about and what you both or all agree you need.  Mrs Jacques may help you to set targets.  These may be about homework, school work, attendance, behaviour, or any other problems which may be affecting your learning.

For you as parents and carers, we can offer support, advice and information regarding issues that affect not just your child’s education, but their emotional and behavioural development.  We can signpost you to other agencies that can provide support, but most importantly, we are a friendly voice on the end of the phone if you need us.  We have an “open door” policy, if you are not able to see us then if you leave a message we will get back to you.  Mrs Jacques is in school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7.45am until 3.45pm.

Mr Jago is also a part of our pastoral team, he works with small groups of children alongside Mrs Jacques. Mr Jago is also involved in developing enterprise programmes with some of our children, teaching them about how to run a sustainable business, stock ordering and pricing. Mr Jago carries out our First Day Response with regards to attendance and works closely with the Education welfare Officer to help ensure our pupils are in school when they should be.

Mr Jago runs some of our after school clubs and also organises football tournaments with other local primary schools. If you need to speak to him he is available in school Monday to Friday from 8.15am until 4.00pm.
